The Jershey Shore, or Glimpses of the Resurrection

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •    •    •    •

The shore is a place of Revelation to me. It's a foretaste of what we will know in God's re-creation. Fortresses of sand cross the beach line, their gates always open. They're built with love and laughter. The joy is in the creation.

It's a place where giggles escape.

It's a place of games--paddleball, whiffle ball, football, frisbie, bocce, horseshoes. It's a place where we remember to be child-like.

Blog Nosh

More exciting than Wicked. More energy than Thoroughly Modern Millie. Scarier than a train wreck.

I'm one of the editors for the Religion section of Blog Nosh.

What is Blog Nosh? you may ask. I'm so glad you did. Blog Nosh is a magazine (more specifically an ezine) that collects quality posts from other blogs in various categories (including art and writing, folks). These blog posts have fallen off the front page of the blog but are so good, we can't let them go.

July's Glimpses

I'm back in Texas, land of hot, hot, hot. I had the best time in Jersey. There might have been a few tears when I landed in Dallas, but those were quickly eclipsed by being with my husband again. I missed that man.

More words and images on Jersey later.

Interview with a short filmmaker

Still at the shore researching, relaxing, and 'riting. Last night, I had the best clam chowder of my life. By day, my niece and I build sand castles and jump waves. By night, the waves lull me to sleep.

But I'm not here to make you jealous. Not today, at least. Today, I want to point you to an interview with a filmmaker, Eric Albertson. The interview was done by Dineen Miller. You can find it here

It's good to be in a land where people get you. You guys know what I mean? They understand why you crave the foods you crave or want to be the places where you want to be. They understand why you need to be by water.

Water people. That's who we are.

Note to those who don't live in Philly or South Jersey: that's pronounced wooter people.

The Long and Short of It

Because I leave for Jersey tomorrow (yay!) and probably won't be able to do much with my blog until I get settled in Ocean City on Saturday, I thought I'd leave you with two posts on writing to check out:

The Church and Postmodern Culture blog has a post up about interpretation. I'd love to get some of your thoughts about it.

Being Called to be an Artist v. Being Called to Create

Tagged:  •    •    •    •    •

On my blog, I've championed the idea that Christians have the permission, and indeed duty, to critique art so that as we embody Christ in art, we present something beautiful, redemptive, and excellent.

So today, I want to take a moment to look at the spiritual discipline of being creative--a discipline everyone, artist or not, can (and should) participate in. I want to show you the difference in my life between being creative and being an artist.

This is my first video blog. It runs approximately 8 min.
