Sneak Preview: May's Glimpses

This month, I have all sorts of fun stuff for you.

Heather Jamison writes about ministry in Africa. She’s involved with humane ministries, such as establishing primary schools and water wells and working with AIDS and HIV victims as well as working with her husband, Brian, planting churches and training leaders.

She’s also the author of several books including Reclaiming Intimacy: Overcoming the Consequences of Premarital Relationships, Keeping It Real (Gogirl Series) (goGirl), and Real Stuff: A Survivor’s Guide (goGirl).

She’s a busy girl.

In Glimpses, Heather writes about her fears in going to Africa and depending on God through them. You can see some of her videos about her ministry here. If I were you, I’d start with Save Kenya.

I also have a piece by Ryan Holmes, "The Church: Distinguished by Grace." Ryan looks at the father of the prodigal son and his response of grace.

Finally, Jocelyn Holmes (yes, wife to the aforementioned Ryan) shares a self-portrait. The work reveals her struggle with Fibromyalgia.

But wait! There’s more!

One lucky winner will receive a 9" x 7" seriolithograph (in color) of Notre Dame de Paris by Daniele Cambier.  After touring as an actress in France and abroad, Daniele devoted herself entirely to the paintbrush. She’s painted on silk and does watercolors. Most of her works combine the beauty of nature, landscape, and the details of the city in harmony.

April's Glimpses and Local Art Festival

I’m especially excited about this issue–no fooling (you know I couldn’t resisted).

This month, I have an interview with Grace Romjue from the band Jubilee. Jubilee is officially registered as a non-profit (501(c)3) and donates half of all proceeds and 10% booking fees to International Justice Mission, an organization that fights to free slaves around the globe. Beside that they have incredible music–mellow rock indie with an aftertaste of jazz. To try a bite of their music, hop on over to their website or their Myspace. One subscriber will win a free Jubilee album.

I’ll also have some reflections on early Church art and how it inspires me in my writing and music.

And April’s Glimpses features artwork by Brenda Gribbin. Her work will be shown in an upcoming art festival, and I’m excited about giving a sneak-peek of her work to subscribers.

For those of you in the Dallas area and interested in art festivals, here’s one that’ll sugar your coffee: "Beginnings: Genesis" sponsored by Park Cities Presbyterian Church. Judges will award winners, who will then move on to a larger Dallas venue. Expect quality work here, folks.

If you don’t want to sign-up, that means you’re not cool like the rest of us. Kidding. Sort of. Wink

March's Glimpses

March’s Glimpses will be going out soon! This month’s free giveaway is an audio book (mp3), At the Back of the North Wind by George Macdonald. From Hovel Christian Audio:

"In this Radio Theatre audio drama adaptation of George MacDonald’s
classic story, a beautiful woman known as the North Wind blows through
a small village in Victorian London, and everyday lives are
mysteriously enveloped by a power and a glory. Along the way, she
visits a poor stable boy named Diamond and takes him with her on her
journeys. At the Back of the North Wind explores the place of death in
our lives, social injustice, and our deep need for love and forgiveness.

"C. S. Lewis, author of the classic Chronicles of Narnia
series, said of MacDonald, ‘What he does best is fantasy–fantasy that
hovers between the allegorical and the mythopoeic. And this, in my
opinion, he does better than any man. MacDonald is the greatest genius
of this kind whom I know.’"

In addition, I have an interview with an eye doctor who spends his time
traipsing across poverty-stricken areas providing free eye care and
glasses, a short story by yours truly (that’d be me!), and a devotional
on the Church as a city on a hill.

If you haven’t signed up and would like to, you can do so with the
nifty form just to your right. Remember, when you sign up you get a
free Bible study tool.

February's Glimpses

On Friday, February’s issue of Glimpses will be going out. This month, I have a guess spot by Lisa Samson, author of numerous women’s contemporary novels (including some of my favorites The Living End and Tiger Lillie) and young adult fiction and co-author (along with her husband), of Justice in the Burbs. She talks about pursuing God’s justice in your neighborhood. Also in this edition is artwork by Brian Chan, Pastor of Arts at a Californian church and adjunct professor of Christianity and the Arts at Biola, a devotional on being the Bride of Christ, and a free giveaway for a coffee cuff by Erin Teske.
