I know, I know. I neither have kids, nor do I teach them on a regular basis (with the exception of showing my friends’ kids how to be a good pirate). Which is why I asked my friend, Robin Castillo mother, teacher extraordinaire, and volunteer at numerous kids programs, to give me her book thoughts.
Here’s what she said:
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to read the book Raising a Modern-Day Joseph – A Timeless Strategy for Growing Great Kids by
Larry Fowler. This book is excellent for both parents and any church
member that works with children. In today’s culture, our youth are not
prepared to face what lies ahead of them when they leave home and many
are choosing to leave the church at this time. This book helps
parents/caregivers/church members see how to better plan an intentional
and biblical approach in growing children to love and serve Jesus
Christ throughout their life. This approach spreads across all of the
formative years of a young person; early childhood links to elementary,
children’s ministry links to youth ministry, and all align to support
the home. The main example that Mr. Fowler uses to help equip us is
from the story of Old Testament Joseph and his separation from his
family; Joseph’s faith remained rock-solid as he continued to serve
God. With many practical suggestions to use, the reader is able to
walk away with many ideas to apply to their family and church
immediately.
This book kept me thinking and reassessing my role as a parent and as a teacher.
