The Jersey Shore, or Glimpses of the Resurrection

The shore is a place of Revelation to me. It's a foretaste of what we will know in God's re-creation. Fortresses of sand cross the beach line, their gates always open. They're built with love and laughter. The joy is in the creation.

It's a place where giggles escape.

It's a place of games--paddleball, whiffle ball, football, frisbie, bocce, horseshoes. It's a place where we remember to be child-like.

In this place, it matters not from whence you came or to where you go. It matters not your education or training. All that matters is your mutual joy and comaraderie. Strangers become fast friends.

In this place, we wear our delight like red carnations. And like Moses' encounter with God, it fades slowly from our faces.

I taste the resurrection in the salt air, in the laughter, in the beauty, in the ever-changing and never-changing ocean.

And, I taste the resurrection in meeting friends. Lela lives in Moscow. I live in Dallas. We met online for a Soul Per Suit bible study. And we discovered that we were at Ocean City just blocks from each other! Lela walked down the beach.

And, of course, I taste the resurrection in the water ice (pronounced wooder ice).

I grew up with summers at the Jersey shore, so this was a great trip down memory lane. Also, you look so happy and pretty! I love that when a person's happiness bubbles out of the pictures. It makes me smile.

This is truly inspiring. I'm looking forward to spending a couple of weeks with my kids in Colorado soon. and enjoying the time.

I had no idea the Jersey shore was so nice. Really looks wonderful.

ps - thanks for the kind remark about my wife's jewelry. ;-)

that video is fun & magical. i've never been to the jersey shore & now i so want to go on a vacation there.

p.p.s. perhaps you could sneak in christin's suitcase & come to washington in august?? ;o)

I'll see what I can do. I can take a few cramped hours for the joy and fun of hanging out with you guys!

let me ditto christianne's comment that you are way too cute!! there is so much joy on your face. and i love that suit!! so stinking cute. :o)

and ... it reminds me of something i just (as in, on sunday) read in kathleen norris's the cloister walk. norris is quoting a benedictine nun when she writes:
"widsom ... is created at the beginning of God's work, and is described in Proverbs as a 'master worker,' but also as God's daily delight. I interpret that to mean that play is an essential part of work" (p. 307)

and yeah ... i love that online connection, too. so cool that you got to meet in person!!

how weird was that online connection? i love hearing stories like that. it convinces me that faith is based on something super-real. take care girl. i can see the carnation in your eyes.

'nuff said. :)

I passed up the chance to go to the beach today because I wanted to stay home and work. What is wrong with me?

I love the video. I have very fond memories of Lake Michigan. I guess I haven't been there in a couple years now. I should have went today.
